Nokia

GI has been implementing the NSN international workplace concept throughout the North East regions since 2007. The concept is constantly transforming and GI has been actively involved in developing, processing and meeting modern office needs. NSN’s work is always changing, so the office spaces need to be adaptable and accommodating to ensure that specific services to staff can be provided i.e. flexible and drop-in workstations.

Unilever Suomi

Unilever wanted to find a new office that would meet their needs. We were briefed by the client to “determine the optimum work environment for us and make it happen”.

The result was an interesting and modern office space in Vallila, located in a former car showroom exuding the spirit of the functionalist movement with a curved roof. The space was completely renovated by us.

In addition to office space, the facilities include learning kitchens, a meeting place for the company’s entire staff and an auditorium staircase. The spacious hall with the curved roof houses two two-storey internal buildings with recreational and work spaces on their rooftops. Unilever’s bold choice breathed new life into this renovated building and it is now fully occupied by a number of businesses.

Sandvik

Sandvik is a traditional multinational conglomerate in the metal industry. As its old facilities were no longer sufficient for its current needs, management decided a change was needed. In summer 2006 we designed new offices for Sandvik in a business park office building located in Vantaa.

The goal in terms of the visual identity of the office space was the story of stainless steel. When customers arrive at the facility they go through an exhibition space displaying the materials and products produced by the company. The contrast between coarse and smooth surfaces and the the delicate structures used in the interior decoration are testament to the versatility of steel in the hands of experts.

Sanoma Magazines pääkonttori

Sanoma Magazines is a leading magazine publisher in the Nordic region and a subsidiary of the Sanoma Wsoy Group.

Rapid growth meant that the publisher’s operations became quite dispersed around the Helsinki area, which began to be a hindrance to the coordination of business. The client decided to bring all of its various magazine units under the same roof.

The location of the new office was the former head office of Pohjola Insurance Company, a traditional building built in the 1960s in the Munkkivuori district of Helsinki. The challenge was to come up with the right ideas to transform an old bureau-type space into an innovative work environment.

The work environment was split into fairly small studio-type spaces. Customised furniture solutions were made together with the employees themselves. The building has an high tower section, the floors of which were transformed into reading and meeting rooms. The building received a makeover that made it more vibrant, colourful and a more versatile work environment.

Perlos

Perlos is a multinational industrial conglomerate that manufactures plastic components for the electronics industry.

In order to be close to its key partners, Perlos has factories all over the world. Our task was to design a head office that would support the identity of a company that is the leader in its business while maintaining an element of closeness and homeliness.

The global nature of the company’s business means that employees travel a great deal. The work environment was therefore designed as an open office to facilitate employees meeting each other more openly while at the head office.

SOL

The workplace solutions GI Design & Architecture designed for SOL in Helsinki and several other locations in Finland have proven to be highly motivating work environments for the company’s staff while also serving as an important tool in communicating company culture.  The project became internationally recognized because of the unconventional mobile office concept where no employee has his own ‘signed’ work station. This completely new working environment concept was in 1992 years ahead of its time.
