Renovation and restoration of a protected historical building
The renovation of the historically significant property at Mikonkatu 9 in Helsinki was completed in the beginning of 2019. GI was the principal and architectural designer of the renovation.
The renovation was extensive. For example, the interior surfaces of the building had to be demolished up to the concrete structures to prevent possible indoor air problems. Some of the auxiliary structures were also demolished to create more space and the magnificent floors of the old banking hall were restored based on old black-and-white photographs.
