Original Sokos Hotel Kupittaa 2020 - Turku

GI designed the interiors for the 196 rooms of the Original Sokos Hotel Kupittaa

The Original Sokos Hotel Kupittaa was opened in the summer of 2020. GI designed the interiors for the hotel's 196 rooms, hallways, as well as the gym, sauna area, and rooftop terrace.

The hotel room interiors highlight a black and white color scheme and bold color themes. A fresh and relaxed concept was designed to appeal specifically to a young and youthful target audience. The design principles were based on cheerfulness, energy, and youthfulness, with a desire for unexpected elements in the spaces.

The hotel is located next to the Kupittaa train station, and the building runs in a south-north direction parallel to the train tracks. The concept behind the hotel room interiors was influenced by the morning and evening sun, with half of the rooms facing the morning sun and the other half enjoying the evening sun. As a result, one side of the rooms is darker while the others are lighter. The color scheme in the bathrooms is the opposite, with a purple shower area as an accent. Unexpected elements were introduced through accent colors such as turquoise, yellow, and orange.
Traditional closets for storing clothes were avoided in the rooms, and instead, they were constructed using pipes. This created an industrial look that was combined with a fresh color palette. In the hotel rooms, the accent features are usually on the wall behind the bed. In Kupittaa's rooms, this idea was flipped so that the accent wall is opposite the bed, allowing guests to enjoy it while lying down. The accent wall features a prominent map of Turku, highlighting the city's significant landmarks. A sofa with comfortable sleeping capabilities was designed by the window, providing an excellent vantage point to enjoy the city views.

The gym on the top floor also offers stunning views through its glass walls. The top floor was also designed to include an indoor bar and an outdoor rooftop terrace.
